Selling 3D Printers – A Magic Trick

Type A Machines Series 1 Pro 3D Printer

February 5, 2017 | By Don Musilli | In Blog

Magic. The art of Prestidigitation. Magicians use minor magic tricks to prepare the crowd for the larger more complicated tricks. The art of selling 3D Printers mimics this process.

LiteWorld LLC now offers two lines of 3D Printers. Our first line, LulzBot TAZ units represents one of the first and most successful U.S. based 3D Printer companies that has continued to grow internationally since 2010. As an Open Source company they have crated a new way of both sharing technology and receiving technical assistance from engineers and makers around the globe. Our second, and most recent line of printers that we represent comes from Type A Machines out of California. Like the LulzBot line these printers use every currently available type of filament to product parts, prototypes and limited production applications.

People who see a 3D printer operate for the first time often are in disbelief as they can’t figure out how the machine can make that three dimensional object right before their eyes.  A Magic Trick.  Even when the process of how we create an object on 3D modeling software and then bring it to the printer build plate software is explained to them there is this mind leap they have to make to understand the technology of 3D Printing. Selling 3D Printers is really the art of Prestidigitation in its simplest form.

For Hobbyists, Teachers and Librarians that have heard of but never seen the technology work, they often see the potential to make anything they can dream of making. And if they are under 20 years of age, more often than not, they have seen them at their school but never really used them. Watching a potential customer look at the 3D Printer demonstration for the first time never really gets old. The look of astonishment is worth the time and effort to bring them a glimpse of our immediate future in getting back to making things again in the U.S.
